Target audience
Those wishing to design Category 2, 3 & 4: Residential Sprinkler Systems e.g. Category 1: Residential Sprinkler System Designers
Aim
To enable individuals to design Category 2-4 residential sprinkler systems.
Outcomes
On completion, individuals should have an understanding of:
- Consultation process and sprinkler specification
- System enhancements and resilience
- System categories
- Design density, supply duration and area of coverage
- Non-residential occupancies
- Sprinkler head suitability, location and spacing
- Water supplies, towns mains, tanks and pumps
- Pipework and valve configuration
- Designing sprinkler systems using software:
- Frost protection options
- Alarm requirements and configuration
- Certification and documentation
Sprinkler design software
This course is conducted using Canute FHC Design software. To undertake the course, individuals will need to provide their own laptop, Xact will provide a copy of the software for use during the course.
On completion, individuals should have an understanding of:
- Basic concepts of computerised hydraulic modelling
- Hydraulic formulas to calculate flow and pressure losses
- Apply node references to a hydraulic model
- Optimising hydraulic models
- Automatic sizing to pipework
- Entering water supplier data
- Producing reports for checking and submitting to AHJ
Assessment
Delegates will be assessed on their ability to design a category 2-4 sprinkler systems to BS 9251 using sprinkler design software.
Qualification: Level 3 Certificate in Residential Sprinkler System Design
This qualification consists of four modules:
- Module 1: Sprinkler Design 1: Five day course
- Module 2: Distance learning: Sprinkler system quotations
- Module 3: Sprinkler Design 2: Four day course: This course
- Module 4: Professional discussion: Virtual
